IPT
As the demand for accountability increases at both the state and local levels, so too does the demand for a more advanced testing system. The new IPT offers a comprehensive solution to all NCLB assessment requirements for English language learners. More than a test, the IPT is a comprehensive language proficiency testing system that concentrates on academic language and supports multiple states’ standards. The IPT is a battery of four tests designed to provide five scores: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension. It also is designed to be able to show reasonably small incremental growth over the whole range of ability, from the lowest level of English ability to full grade-level performance, in all the grades from Pre-K to Grade 12.

The new IPT testing system will:

  • Deliver a comprehensive solution to all NCLB requirements for language proficiency
  • Provide grade-span appropriate tests for all four language modalities
  • Provide the five separate scores required by NCLB: English language listening, speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension
  • Collect baseline data to develop Annual Measurable Achievement Objectives (AMAOs)
  • Provide an overall proficiency score for the purposes of reporting AMAOs
  • Be customizable to individual state’s standards
  • Provide placement and diagnostic information
  • Assess both social language and academic language capabilities
  • Be valid, reliable, and cost-effective
  • Evaluate students’ progress
  • Be quick and easy to administer and implement
  • Provide teachers with the information they need for instructional planning
