Instruction & Professional Development
A key component of NCLB requires states to demonstrate that the instructional materials used with limited English proficient (LEP) students are of high quality and are based on scientific research. In addition, states are required to have a highly qualified teacher in every classroom. This applies to English language instructors, as well.

Ballard & Tighe is working with states and schools to help them meet these requirements in the arenas of instruction and teacher preparedness. In doing so, we have developed exceptional research-based instructional materials for students and professional development courses for educators.

Defining Research-based Instruction
The U.S. Department of Education defines a research-based instructional program as one that produces carefully obtained, reliable evidence that the program works. This often involves having to compare one program against another to measure for effectiveness. Many classrooms, however, do not have the resources to gather this kind of comparative, research-based data. Ballard & Tighe helps educators resolve these challenges with cost-effective and quality instructional programs designed to meet NCLB requirements.
